Power Phase Review Home
Review of the different
types of power phase available. Several different topics listed, all very
informative.
3 Phase Power
A common source of electrical
power transmission. This type of phase power is much more economical when
powering your equipment.
Single Phase Power
Most commonly used power for
residential and businesses that need power for lighting, heating and
cooling. This type of phase power does not supply a revolving magnetic
field.
2 Phase Power
2 Phase power is an early
20th century multiple phase that alternates the electric distribution
system. One of the advantages of 2 phase power was to start electric motors.
Three phase power has basically replaced 2 phase power.
3 Phase Power on Single Phase Power
Most residential and businesses
only offer single phase power. You can convert you single phase power to 3
phase power by using a phase converter.
Rotary Phase Converter
The rotary converter is the most widely used power converter
on the market today. The rotary converters convert your single phase
power to 3 phase power giving your equipment a smooth sine wave with little
or no maintenance for years to come.
Static Phase Converter
The static phase converter has
been around the longest in the industry but the uses on these are very
limited. They basically only jump start you three phase equipment for
a matter of seconds which can give you problems down the line.
Distribution of Three
Phase Power in the USA
Most residential and commercial areas are only supplied with
single phase power in the USA. There are some commercial areas that
have recently installed three phase power to places such as factories and
large office buildings.
Harmonic Distortion
Harmonic distortion has become
an increasing problem for machine and equipment operators. Harmonics can
reduce the life of the equipment and interrupt equipment productivity.

Harmonic Distortion
SINE
WAVES

Harmonic distortion has become
more and more prevalent in today's world with all of the different equipment
and machinery available. Harmonic distortion can waste energy and
reduce the life of your equipment and the electrical system.
Therefore, the dependability, efficiency and productivity of your equipment
is in harms way.
Harmonic
distortion in electrical systems are like a wave or what
we call a sine wave. The alternating current is looking for the
perfect wave where the electrical voltage is able to change in a smooth
process from the positive polarity to the negative polarity and then back
again 60 times per second. Basically, harmonic distortion is
continuous disturbance that appears on the electrical network.
You could listen to a power line from the
utility company and you should hear a monotone hum if your harmonics are in
tact. Now if you hear another tone, that has a much higher note, you
are experiencing harmonic distortion. You can notice the problem if
you look at the waveform. If the waveform (sinewave) is smooth then you are
in good shape, however, if it is distorted in anyway, then you have
harmonic distortion. The voltage and the waveforms are no longer
related. Harmonics are created by non-linear loads that draw the current in
strong pulses rather than in smooth pulses. These pulses are what causes the
distorted waves which make the harmonic currents flow into other parts of
the equipment.
The unfortunate thing about harmonic
distortion is that it's kind of like a virus. If your equipment
has harmonic distortion, it is possible that someone down the road or
in the same building can be experiencing the same problem if they share the
same transformer. This means that you can pass it back and forth and
everyone's equipment will suffer. Harmonic distortion can cause your
equipment to have penalty losses which involve higher costs to run your
equipment and the possibility of your equipment overheating with the end
result being damage to your equipment.
There are times when your equipment
requires three phase power but you only have single phase power that you
could use a phase converter to convert your single phase power into three
phase power. This three phase equipment sometimes can create harmonic
distortion. A true
rotary phase converter
with power correction can take care of this harmonic distortion.
Other phase converters on the market including Digitally
Synthesized 3 phase tend to produce harmonic distortion.
Another one is Inferior Rotary Technology which does produce somewhat of a
smooth sine wave but it tends to be unbalanced and peak voltages will vary.
And then there is the Static Converter in which, it produces a surge in
power just enough to power your equipment and then it disconnects and your
machine is now only receiving single phase power again. This type is the
cheapest way to go but it ultimately causes terrible harmonic distortion
and can result in total damage to your equipment which in the long run is
not cost effective at all.
ACE
Phase
Converter has the best true three phase rotary phase converter on
the market. They produce their three phase power the same way a power
plant generates power. They use rotary generators just like the power plants
do but the powering of the generator is done with single phase power. Using
the ACE Phase Converter technology, this causes rotation which in turn
creates the third line of power. The
ACE
Phase Converter rotary phase converter
offers the Smooth Sine technology. Their phase converters provide a
smooth waveform, which is what you want, to ensure the longevity of your
equipment and guarantees proper running operations. ACE Phase Converter
guarantees all their products for 10 years so you can be assured that you
are getting the best products to take care of any harmonic distortion
that you may be experiencing.

ACE Phase
Converters are the best reliable phase converters.
Custom-made products are also available.
